Cognitive labor is a sequence of organizational, preparatory, and analytical tasks that occur in the mind. In contrast to undervalued physical tasks like cleaning or childcare, cognitive labor is literally invisible. These various portraits, featured in my 2024 MFA exhibition home / office, explore cognitive domestic labor and the people who perform it. Whom do we take for granted, and what would it take for us to truly see them?
